May be involved in neural development. Involved in regulation of osteoblast function and bone formation. Involved in matrix vesicle release by osteoblasts; this function seems to involve maintenance of the actin cytoskeleton. May be involved in cellular trafficking of SERT and thereby in regulation of serotonin uptake.

Study detected Na(+) channel clusters at heminodes without any associated M6B, indicating that it is not required for initial channel clustering; showed that absence of M6B results in progressive appearance of nodal protrusions of the nodal axolemma, that are often accompanied by the presence of enlarged mitochondria. 2. The results of this study proposed that M6b proteins are required for proper extension and guidance of callosal axons that follow one of the most complex trajectories in the mammalian nervous system. PMID: 24917275
